Tawny pipitBrachpieper Anthus campestris
Family: Wagtails and pipits
Pale and sandy, larger than a meadow pipit and almost unstreaked below, with a dark line through the eye, a row of dark marks on the wing coverts and a long tail that recalls a wagtail. It favours bare, dry ground: heaths, dunes, sand pits and military training areas, where it runs in short bursts. Numbers in Germany are small; the birds breed here and winter in Africa.
