A slim, long-legged sandpiper with yellowish legs, a spotted brown back and a clear white eyebrow; in flight the white rump contrasts with a finely barred tail. Wood sandpipers wade in shallow freshwater marshes and flooded meadows, bobbing as they feed. A regular passage migrant in Germany in spring and late summer, breeding only very rarely in the north.
