Mourning doveCarolinataube Zenaida macroura
Family: Pigeons, Doves
A slender, long-tailed dove around 30 centimetres long, soft grey-brown overall with black spots on the wing and a pointed tail edged in white, familiar across much of North America. It feeds on open ground in fields, roadsides and gardens, its mournful, low cooing call giving it its name. Abundant from Canada through Mexico and the Caribbean, it is a widespread resident and migrant, absent from Germany.
