Greylag gooseGraugans Anser anser
Family: Ducks, geese, and waterfowl
Bulky and grey-brown, the largest of the native geese, with a heavy orange bill, pink legs and pale forewings that show as a silver flash in flight. It grazes meadows, reedy lake margins and stubble, and families stay together long after the young can fly. In Germany it breeds commonly, many birds stay all year, and others pass through or arrive for the winter.
