Common swiftMauersegler Apus apus
Family: Swifts
An all-dark, scythe-winged bird that spends almost its whole life in the air, feeding, drinking and even sleeping on the wing. Swifts scream in fast packs around rooftops on summer evenings and nest in gaps under tiles and in wall crevices. They arrive in Germany at the end of April and leave again in early August, one of the shortest stays of any migrant.
