Common wood pigeonRingeltaube Columba palumbus
Family: Pigeons and doves
The largest pigeon in Europe, grey with a pink breast, a white neck patch and broad white bands across the wings that flash in flight. Wood pigeons clatter out of trees when disturbed and give a muffled five-note cooing from spring to late summer. Formerly a shy woodland bird, they now breed in gardens and city squares across Germany and gather in large flocks on fields in winter.
