SanderlingSanderling Calidris alba
Family: Sandpipers and allies
A small, very pale sandpiper that runs along the tide line like a clockwork toy, chasing the retreating waves for tiny prey. In winter it is almost white with grey upperparts, in summer rusty on the head and breast; it is the only sandpiper without a hind toe. Sanderlings breed in the far north and are regular on German sandy beaches from autumn to spring.
