Western yellow wagtailSchafstelze Motacilla flava
Family: Wagtails and pipits
Slimmer and shorter-tailed than a white wagtail, the male bright yellow below with an olive back and a blue-grey head marked by a white stripe over the eye. It walks through damp pasture, cereal fields and marsh edges, often among cattle, snapping up insects and wagging its tail with each pause. The species breeds across Germany and leaves in autumn for Africa south of the Sahara.
