Northern pintailSpießente Anas acuta
Family: Ducks, geese, and waterfowl
Slim and long-necked, the drake carrying a chocolate head with a white stripe up the neck and two thin tail pins that lift the body line well beyond a mallard. It upends in shallow flood water and coastal lagoons, often in strung-out flocks that feed on the move. In Germany it breeds only in small numbers, and is mainly a passage migrant and winter visitor.
