Black-winged stiltStelzenläufer Himantopus himantopus
Family: Stilts and avocets
A slim wader with absurdly long pink legs, a needle-thin black bill, white body and black wings; in flight the legs trail far behind the tail. Black-winged stilts wade belly-deep in shallow lagoons and salt pans, picking insects from the surface. A Mediterranean species that has bred in Germany only occasionally, most often after dry springs in the south.
