Common gullSturmmöwe Larus canus
Family: Gulls and terns
Built like a herring gull at two thirds the size, with a gentle dark eye, a slim greenish-yellow bill lacking any red spot, and yellow-green legs. Birds feed on wet meadows and ploughed fields as readily as on shores, walking steadily and pattering for worms. Colonies breed on the German coast and inland, some remaining all year, while northern birds pass through or spend the winter.
