Green sandpiperWaldwasserläufer Tringa ochropus
Family: Sandpipers and allies
A medium-sized sandpiper, dark brown above with a fine pale speckle, white below and with a bright white rump that flashes as it flies up with a shrill call. Green sandpipers feed alone along ditches, wooded ponds and streams and nest in old thrush nests in trees. Small numbers breed in Germany's north-eastern forests; more pass through on migration and some stay the winter.
